The inaugural Insurance Investor Live | Benelux event, held earlier this month in Amsterdam, focused on a range of topics, but the overarching theme was the defence of sustainable investment in one of the markets where it’s strong.

With representatives from around Europe, but particularly the Benelux countries – the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg – the intimate meeting of investment professionals focused on key themes for insurers and asset owners in the region.

“The good place?”

Xavier Debrun, Head of Economics and Research, National Bank of Belgium and Former Member, European Fiscal Board, kicked off the day with a keynote presentation on “Macroeconomic outlook in the Benelux and beyond: how insurers can navigate uncertainties”.

“We did a splendid job bringing inflation from 10% to 2%. Now, is it such a good place? If we look at annual GDP growth in real terms, the picture is less exciting."
